Peptide Name: SMG1 (3547-3553) pT3550

Product Use: Services as a blocking peptide for use with the SMG1-pT3550 rabbit polyclonal antibody (Cat. No.: AB-PK817) that is also available from Kinexus. This phosphopeptide may also be useful as a substrate for screening the phosphatase activity of protein phosphatases. The peptide sequence is located in the C-terminus of SMG1. This is one of the two major in vivo sites for phosphorylation of SMG1. The effect of its phosphorylation is unclear.

Scientific Background: SMG1 (ATX) is a protein-serine/threonine kinase of the Atypical group and PIKK family. It mediates the genotoxic stress pathway as well as the mRNA surveillance pathway. SMG1 will target nonsense RNA molecules for degradation via phosphorylation of RENT1/UPF1. SMG1 is essential for optimal phosphorylation and activity of p53/TP53 following genotoxic stress. It is iInhibited by caffeine, LY294002 and wortmannin.
